T.D. takes center stage at every Dolphins home game, engaging with fans and boosting the crowd’s enthusiasm. His dynamic performances and humorous antics have made him a cherished part of the Dolphins community. But T.D.’s influence doesn’t stop there. During the offseason, he remains active throughout South Florida, attending various Miami Dolphins community events where he continues to spread team spirit and build connections with fans.
T.D. is not just a local hero—he’s a mascot with global recognition. He has earned the title of an 11-time Pro Bowl mascot, showcasing his popularity and impact within the NFL. T.D.’s performances have taken him worldwide, including appearances at the Chinese New Year’s Day Parade in Hong Kong and as the first mascot to participate in the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio. Additionally, T.D. has shown his support for American troops by traveling overseas on five military tours, bringing the Dolphins’ spirit to servicemen and women abroad.
When T.D. was first introduced, he didn’t yet have a name. To solve this, the Dolphins launched a “Name the Mascot” contest, which drew over 13,000 entries from fans across all 50 states and over 22 countries. Sara Fernandez of Miami submitted the winning name, “T.D.,” a shortcut for Touch Down. Her suggestion was selected during the Dolphins Awards Banquet on June 4, 1997, earning her two tickets to Super Bowl XXXII and cementing T.D.’s identity as the Dolphins’ official mascot.
Before T.D. became the face of the Miami Dolphins, the team had “Dolfan Denny,” a beloved figure who energized the sidelines on game days. However, since 1997, T.D. has carried on that legacy, becoming a symbol of the Dolphins’ pride and a key figure in the NFL community.
T.D.’s journey from a nameless mascot to a global ambassador for the Miami Dolphins highlights his enduring appeal and the deep connection he shares with fans. His presence at games and events continues to inspire and unite the Dolphins community, making T.D. a true icon in the world of sports.
